Guild of Freemen
Due to the current situation regarding Covid-19, there is a limit on numbers of applicants who are able to attend Freedom Admissions Ceremonies. Please contact the Town Council prior to submitting application forms to avoid disappointment.
Berwick-upon-Tweed's Guild of Freemen dates back to at least the 12th century, though their records are only extant locally from 1505. The Town Council, under an arrangement with Northumberland County Council, administers the Freedom Admission ceremonies held quarterly. The Freedom ceremonies are held in Berwick-upon-Tweed Town Hall. The introductory information and application forms can be downloaded here:
Dates of Freedom Admission ceremonies in 2021 are:
Tuesday 12 January 2021(11.30 am) (apply at least 5 weeks in advance) Tuesday 6 April 2021(11.30 am) (apply at least 4 weeks in advance) Tuesday 6 July 2021(11.30 am) (apply at least 4 weeks in advance) Tuesday 28 September 2021(11.00 am) (apply at least 4 weeks in advance)
The deadline for receiving applications for a ceremony is four weeks before the date of the ceremony (five weeks for the ceremony in January). However, it would be a great help to know as much in advance as possible which ceremony you would like to attend. If you have any questions please email us on firstname.lastname@example.org
